The Niger State Police Command has taken custody of Umar Mohammed, a 26-year-old man, for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area.
According to the state police command, in a statement issued by Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on January 27, 2025, at about 9 pm and was reported to officers at Bangi Division.
Abiodun explained that this led to the arrest of Mohammed, an unmarried farmer from Farar-Doka village, following a direct complaint that he defiled the child on January 26 at about 8:30 pm.
The police PRO revealed that the six-year-old victim had been sent on an errand to a nearby shop but returned late and in tears. Enquiries revealed the disturbing truth.
Abiodun stated that Mohammed accosted the child on her way back from the shop, took her to a nearby bush, and committed the crime.
The victim was taken to the General Hospital in Bangi for medical attention, while Mohammed was arrested and taken in for questioning.
